Get Ready for Finals
With finals just around the corner, here are some tips to get ready for them:
- Arrive to your exams a half hour early, if possible. This gives you time in case of traffic or other issues.
- Make use of office hours. Many professors will have additional office hours before finals, and some even offer them virtually.
- Study for a little bit every day, instead of cramming. Instead of doing a five-hour study session the night before your final, consider one hour per day in the week leading up to the exam.
- Know your exam schedule. Most exams are not during class time, and departmental exams have separate schedules than other exams. Visit the Final Exam Policy & Schedule webpage on the Registrar's Office website for more information.
- Get support if the stress gets to be too much. You are not alone! Reach out to Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) anytime.
- Make sure to eat before exams. A full stomach can help you perform better.
- Access free tutoring. Whatever you're studying, UAlbany has a free tutoring service to fit your needs. Visit the Tutoring & Academic Support website to explore available tutoring options.
- Find a quiet space. Whether you need a quiet place to take an online exam or study for your next final, consider using the silent zones in the University Library.
Move Out of Your Off-campus Apartment
The end of the semester is quickly approacing! Here are some tips on moving out:
- Now is a great time to de-clutter. Consider donating what you didn't use this year.
- Bring friends. The more people you have helping makes the process go a lot faster. Offering lunch or dinner to any helpers is an excellent way to express your gratitude.
- Organization is key. Make sure to properly label boxes and have a system so you can find everything again when its time to unpack or move into a new place.
- Be careful when lifting. Always lift with your legs. If needed, use a lift belt too.
- Consider hiring professionals. Movers can offer extra help, especially with large items, if needed.
- Check the apartment. Do walk-through once you've finished packing up to ensure you didn't leave anything behind.
- Plan ahead. Knowing when you'll move, who will help and other salient details will held you stay on schedule.
Stay Safe using Online Marketplaces
If you plan to buy or sell anything using an online marketplace, use these tips to stay safe:
- If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. Use common sense when exploring online marketplaces, where scams abound.
- Only meet up in public. If you're meeting with someone for a transaction, do it in a public place with heavy pedestrian traffic. Bring a friend if you can. The Albany Police Department recommends and offers the use of the lobbies at their stations to ensure everyone’s safety during a transaction.
- Be cautious with payment. Don't exchange money until you see the physical product. Then, use a verified payment app, such as Venmo or Cash App, or the marketplace's built-in payment feature to manage payment. Cash and checks can be forged, so it's smart to avoid them if you cannot properly verify them.
- Be cautious with electronics. Before you sell electronics, do a full factory reset to remove all your personal information. Before you buy electronics, know it can be hard to verify their condition during the exchange.
