New research led by the University at Albany examines how different provisions of the Affordable Care Act affected insurance coverage among American Indian and Alaska Native people between 2011 and 2019.

In 2021, two accidental fuel releases occurred at the Navy-operated Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility on the island of O‘ahu. Consequently, nearly 93,000 individuals—primarily connected to the Department of Defense—may have been exposed to contaminated drinking water at their homes and workplaces. UAlbany’s Kurunthachalam Kannan, who is Deputy Director of the Division of Environmental Health Sciences at Wadsworth, served on a National Academy of Sciences committee to develop recommendations for the clinical follow-up and care of those affected.

Spread by the blacklegged tick, Lyme disease is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and can lead to fever, rash, facial paralysis, irregular heartbeat, arthritis and other symptoms. UAlbany students at Wadsworth are conducting research to better understand how antibodies function to protect vulnerable tissues in the body from infection.
