"World RNA Day" celebration marks conclusion of RNA Institute's Summer Program
The SUNY Albany RNA Institute's Summer Program "World RNA Day" was held on Friday, August 1st at the conclusion of the RNA Institute's Summer Program.
"RNA Day" began in 2018 on the initiative of Uruguayan molecular biologist Juan Pablo Tosar, a researcher at the Pasteur Montevideo Institute, and this aniversary has been endorsed by the RNA Society. August 1st was chosen as World RNA Day, due to the pun between August 1st and AUG (adenine, uracil and guanine), a triple sequence of RNA (called a codon) that initiates protein synthesis by the cell.
The final day's events led with announcements from Governor Hochul and SUNY Chancellor King on plans for upcoming collaborative efforts between the Institute and the University's developing AI research facilities and ended with a competitive poster session for participants to demonstrate the skills they developed during the summer program.
