Relaying information to the public during emergencies is critically important. However, gaps remain in understanding how technology can and should be used for disseminating messages. A new study from the University at Albany’s Center for Technology in Government (CTG UAlbany) aims to address these gaps, particularly as it pertains to local municipalities.

The research grants will advance the efficiency and trustworthiness of artificial intelligence systems, and UAlbany was one of two SUNY Research Centers to receive four grants this year out of a total of 14 projects funded systemwide.

UAlbany College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering (CNSE) students Kevin Reyes, William Grice and Jadyn Lee joined with sixty students from around the world to learn directly from leading specialists about the evolution of the semiconductor and photonics industries at the Eindhoven Semicon Summer School in August in Eindhoven, Netherlands.

UAlbany Associate Professor of Computer Science Pradeep Atrey and doctoral student Omkar Kulkarni are at work trying to create a better virtual photo editor. Combining techniques of computer vision with machine learning, Atrey and Kulkarni have developed an innovative iOS application designed to improve the quality of group photos.

UAlbany’s Center for the Advancement of Teaching, Learning, and Online Education has launched a new podcast aimed at delivering effective teaching information to faculty, with the first season exploring the role of artificial intelligence in education.

The new $16.5M supercomputer is a central pillar in UAlbany’s AI Plus initiative — a holistic push to integrate teaching and learning about AI across every college, school and major to ensure every graduate is prepared to live and work in a world radically changed by technology.

Based at UAlbany’s Life Sciences Research Building, the joint center will be equipped with novel instrumentation from the Leibniz Institute and set up new pathways for collaborative research opportunities.
