Transfer to UAlbany

Apply to UAlbany today by visiting Undergraduate Admissions or International AdmissionsNote: If you previously attended UAlbany, explore Readmission & Degree Completion

The University has transfer articulation agreements with other institutions that facilitate students’ transfer from their starting institutions to UAlbany. These pathways help students maximize the number of credits that transfer to UAlbany and ensure timely bachelor’s degree completion.

Visit the First-Year Experience website for information on transfer student support.

For students transferring to UAlbany from other SUNY schools:

At the University at Albany, we take a careful, student-centered approach to reviewing transfer credits so you receive the maximum credit possible.

Our Undergraduate Admissions team reviews prior completed coursework and posts eligible transfer credits to your student record. A second reviewer ensures everything is accurate before the credits are officially posted. Your academic advisor then checks your degree audit to make sure your credits apply correctly to your program and submits updates when needed.

When a course does not transfer, the Office of Undergraduate Education takes an additional look to confirm whether the credit can be applied. When credit cannot be awarded, the reason is clearly documented in your student record so you and your advisor understand how your credits were evaluated.

Accepted transfer credit will be evaluated as appropriate UAlbany equivalencies (including major, minor, General Education, and elective credit) and will be awarded upon matriculation.

If you believe that there are any errors in the designation of equivalencies, please discuss this with your academic advisor (if you do not have an advisor or do not know who your advisor is, please email [email protected]).

If, after working with your advisor, you still believe that decisions about equivalencies are in error, you may submit a petition to UAlbany’s Campus Transfer Representative by completing a Transfer Credit Appeal. You will receive a written response within 15 business days once the Campus Transfer Representative has received the form and all required information.

If the appeal is successful, your record will be updated with the appropriate equivalencies. If the appeal is denied, or if you have not received a response in 15 business days, you may submit an appeal to the SUNY System Provost. Learn more about SUNY Transfer Appeals.

Transfer to Another Institution

If you’re looking to transfer from UAlbany to another institution, they may request a College Report or Dean’s Recommendation in addition to your transfer application.

Request a College Report or Dean's Recommendation. You must provide the form(s), as well as instructions for how and where to send the completed paperwork.

We encourage you to provide a direct email address, instead of a fax number.

If the letter should be sent via postal mail, you must bring a stamped, addressed envelope to the Office of Undergraduate Education in Taconic 382. You are responsible for determining the mailing address for the transfer admissions office at the institution to which you’re applying.

Note: We are obligated to report any academic and/or disciplinary sanctions you have at UAlbany.
