Interdisciplinary Studies

Interdisciplinary Studies at UAlbany

UAlbany offers several Interdisciplinary Studies options, which blend complementary disciplines to encourage new avenues of academic investigation.

Each Interdisciplinary Studies degree program (major) has a concentration, which may be faculty- or student-initiated. Students can also create their own Interdisciplinary Studies minor.

Explore all undergraduate majors and minors.

Faculty-initiated Majors

Undergraduate students can declare a faculty-initiated major without additional paperwork. Visit the Academic Advising website to declare a major.

The following faculty-initiated majors are currently available:

Student-initiated Major & Minors

Students can propose their own concentration for an Interdisciplinary Studies degree (major) or their own Interdisciplinary Studies minor.

These options are designed to allow highly motivated students to meet specialized educational goals not currently available in UAlbany’s many existing majors and minors

Students work with faculty members from at least two different academic departments to prepare and submit a proposal.

For detailed instructions, please refer to the submission forms.

Proposals are reviewed and either approved or denied by the Undergraduate Academic Council’s Interdisciplinary Studies Committee.
