MPH Student Focuses on Dementia and Alzheimer’s through Research & Internship Positions
Cassie Kane is earning a Master of Public Health (MPH) and a Graduate Certificate in Maternal and Child Health here at the UAlbany School of Public Health. Currently, she is completing an internship and working as a research assistant, and in both of these positions she focuses on Dementia/Alzheimer’s work.

Meet Haley Caldwell: PhD Candidate in Biomedical Sciences
Haley Caldwell is a PhD candidate in Biomedical Sciences at the University at Albany. Her Master’s thesis, completed under the guidance of Kirsten St. George, resulted in the development of a whole genome sequencing protocol for mumps virus samples that is still in use. Now, she studies flaviviruses in Alexander T. Ciota’s lab at the New York State Department of Health.
In Partnership with UAlbany, NYSDOH Releases First-in-the-Nation Data & Analysis on COVID-19 Vaccine Effectiveness & Breakthrough Infections
Working with the University at Albany, the New York State Department of Health released data showing the effectiveness of vaccines in the fight against COVID-19 – showing that vaccinations remain the best way for New Yorkers to protect themselves, families and communities from COVID-19 and its most severe outcomes such as hospitalization.

Renewed NIH Funding: Continuing our Collaboration with Kazakhstan to Combat HIV
ALBANY, N.Y. (August 6, 2021) - The New York State International Training and Research Program (NYS-ITRP), cooperatively administered by SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, the UAlbany School of Public Health and the New York State Department of Health, recently received a five-year $1.5 million renewal award from the National Institutes of Health that will allow it to expand research partnerships and training opportunities in Kazakhstan, where HIV infection remains a significant threat to public health.
Biomedical Sciences Student Works to Improve Understanding of Breast Cancer
ALBANY, N.Y. (August 5, 2021) – For so many of us, cancer has taken away loved ones far too soon. The need for rigorous cancer research is critical to prevent further loss of life, and Biomedical Sciences PhD student Ali Ropri is on the front lines of this fight, conducting research in Jason Herschkowitz’s lab at UAlbany’s Cancer Research Center to better understand breast cancer.
