Winter Grad Spotlight: Emily Schepisi, MPA ’20

Emily Schepisi

Emily Schepisi, MPA ’20 graduated in December with a dual concentration in policy analysis and public management. Emily was a part of the BA/MPA program, starting her graduate coursework while completing a dual BA in political science and social work at SUNY Fredonia. During her time at Rockefeller College, Emily completed an internship with the NYS Department of Health Office of Public Health Practice. In this position, she worked on a sustainability plan for re-accreditation, helped to restructure online trainings for NYLearnsPH.com, as well as identified courses to help the public workforce in response to the global health crisis. While completing her degree, Emily secured full-time employment as an analyst with Airam Actuarial Consulting.


Why did you choose to attend UAlbany/Rockefeller College?

I chose to attend UAlbany/Rockefeller College due to the favorable reputation of the public administration program. Since the program is nationally ranked, I knew I would be learning from accomplished professors who would challenge their students.


What was one of the most meaningful experiences you had during your time in the MPA program?

The most meaningful experience I had was the friendships. Having friends within the program helped us push through the most difficult classes and celebrate accomplishments together.


Where did you complete your internship requirement and what knowledge, skills, and abilities did you develop as a result of this experience?

I fulfilled my internship requirement at the New York State Department of Health. This experience helped me improve my skills managing projects, communicating with the public, and allowed me to make meaningful connections.


Where are you currently employed and what is the focus of your position?

I have a position as an Analyst at Airam Actuarial Consulting. Currently, I work with the New York State Department of Health, and I help with project management for different Medicaid programs.


What are your career goals moving forward?

My goal is to become an expert in my field and continue making positive changes.
