Timely Warning Bulletin

Serious On-Campus Incident Report

Dear UAlbany community,

At approximately 5:15 p.m. this afternoon, University Police received a report of an armed robbery and kidnapping that occurred on the Uptown Campus near the I-90 entrance.

A couple reported that they pulled their vehicle on to campus due to a flat tire and that while attending to the tire they were approached by two males. It was reported that one of the males displayed a handgun and demanded their valuables and, during the robbery, abducted a young child from their vehicle and fled the scene.

The couple called 911 and reported pursuing the suspects’ vehicle for a short distance before the suspects stopped, placed the child on the side of the road and drove away.

The couple reported safely recovering their child from the side of the road prior to again following the vehicle for a short distance and pulling over to await police arrival. The couple provided the above information before refusing to cooperate further with investigators and leaving the scene.

The suspects’ vehicle is described as a silver sedan, possibly an Infiniti or Lexus.

There is no information that leads us to believe that the reporting parties or suspects have any affiliation with UAlbany or that there is any ongoing danger to our campus.

UPD, with the assistance of state and local partners, continues to investigate this incident and will provide updates to the community, including more detailed descriptions of the suspects, as they become available.

Anyone with any information regarding this incident is urged to call UPD at 518-442-3131.

Sincerely,

Paul Burlingame

Chief of Police
