From UAlbany to NASA and beyond

Emily Magnus, BSc 2017 from the Department of Physics at UAlbany, performed research with Profs. Matthew Szydagis and Cecilia Levy on energy reconstruction for liquid-Xenon-based detectors looking for elusive dark matter particles. Her senior year, she was awarded the Presidential Award for Undergraduate Research by President Havidan Rodriguez. After graduation, she fulfilled a life-long dream by starting to work with NASA, in an engineering position working on spacecraft, as a government contractor for different companies: Sierra Lobo, Northrop Grumman, Peraton, and others. Emily is one of several alumni building the future of aerospace. While continuing to work with NASA, she is concurrently pursuing her Masters Degree in Applied Physics at Johns Hopkins University. But her journey all started here, at UAlbany.
