This for-credit microcredential covers the technical fundamentals of artificial intelligence (AI) and its implications for modern society.
It provides learners with an introduction to artificial intelligence, including technical terminology and key concepts in intelligent computer systems, machine learning, natural language processing, robotics and image processing. Learners will perform hands-on activities in the basics of AI and machine learning.
The microcredential covers the strengths and weaknesses of human decision-making in conjunction with AI innovations to address social, ethical and legal implications of AI technologies and introduces issues of fairness, bias and ethics and how these must be addressed in the design, deployment, and use of AI systems.
AI Plus Fundamentals can be stacked with additional advanced courses on AI in specific disciplines.
Required Courses
To earn this microcredential, learners must complete two undergraduate courses:
- UUNI 118: Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (one credit)
- CINF 135: Concepts in Artificial Intelligence (three credits)

Learners completing the AI Plus Fundamentals microcredential will be able to:
- Explain and use artificial intelligence terminology and technologies in the workforce
- Identify the advantages and disadvantages of using artificial intelligence in organizations including business enterprise and government
- Analyze the implications of applying AI systems to organizations and in the workplace
- Apply critical thinking, problem-solving and cognitive computing skills to address real world issues
- Demonstrate how to find and discern reliable and actionable information on AI applications
- Work effectively in teams
