UAlbany Earns National, Global Recognition in Latest College Rankings

ALBANY, N.Y. (Sept. 8, 2026) — National and global rankings released this summer by Money, The Princeton Review, TIME, Niche and ShanghaiRanking highlight the strengths and success of the University at Albany and its students.

The recognition comes as the University welcomes the largest first-year class in its history this fall and reflects UAlbany’s commitment to academic quality, student support, affordability, research and experiential learning.

Academic Excellence and Student Experience

Money named UAlbany one of America’s Best Colleges in its 2026 ratings. Money’s annual Best Colleges analysis focuses on the value of a degree, weighing factors tied to educational quality, affordability and student outcomes, including graduation rates, cost, student debt and alumni earnings.

The Princeton Review also included UAlbany in its The Best 392 Colleges: 2027 Edition. The guide profiles colleges based on their academic offerings and feedback from students about their experiences.

UAlbany appeared on The Princeton Review’s Best Northeast and Green Colleges lists. For the second year in a row the University was also named to the publication's Mental Health Honor Roll, one of 30 schools recognized for efforts that support student mental health and well-being.

TIME also included UAlbany in its inaugural edition of America’s Best Colleges of 2026-2027, ranking No. 123 nationally. The ranking evaluates institutions on student outcomes, learning environment, and attractiveness to students.

Global Ranking Reflects Research Strength

UAlbany rose to the 501-600 band in the 2026 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), known as the ShanghaiRanking, one of the most highly regarded global university rankings. The increase reflects UAlbany’s longstanding commitment to student achievement and research excellence, exemplified by the recent exceptional achievement of alumnus Omar Yaghi ‘85, who shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry last year.

The ranking follows UAlbany’s rapidly growing research enterprise. The University reported nearly $472 million in research and development activity in fiscal year 2024, ranking No. 9 nationally among public universities without medical schools.

UAlbany’s research achievements also support its growing international presence. Earlier this year, the University extended its global reach through a knowledge partnership with the Ramaiah Institute of Science and Management (RISM), a new STEM-and management-focused university in Bengaluru, India. As RISM builds its academic programs and research enterprise, UAlbany is providing guidance on curriculum and faculty development, while the institutions explore opportunities for faculty exchanges, student coursework, internships, service learning and collaborative research.
