R&E Week 2025: Frontiers of Biotech & Nanotech

The University at Albany held its third Research & Entrepreneurship (R&E) Week from October 27 to 31, 2025.  

The theme was Frontiers of Biotech & Nanotech, and the week-long event included:

  • The BioInnovation Forum and the Albany Nanotechnology Symposium
  • Participation from leading industry partners, such as IBM, GlobalFoundries, Applied Materials and Tokyo Electron
  • Presentations centered around next-generation technologies with a strong focus on sustainability

By providing a collaborative forum for scholars and partners from diverse disciplines, R&E Week showcases UAlbany’s research and economic potential while fostering new connections and opportunities for collaboration.

Event Highlights

The 2025 BioInnovation Forum’s keynote and featured sessions focused on biologics, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, industrial biotechnology, building New York’s biotech ecosystem and supporting public-private innovation.  

New programming, such as the Pathbreaking Research Talk Series, highlighted faculty excellence across disciplines, while innovation-focused sessions, including the first Research and Innovation Startup Exchange (RISE) cohort’s final pitch, emphasized pathways from discovery to real-world application.

The week concluded with Celebrating Research from Innovation to Impact. More than 25 members of the UAlbany community were recognized for their research, scholarship and inventions.  

The Division for Research & Economic Development also introduced a set of new award categories that recognize excellence in research services and highlight the critical role of staff and administrative infrastructure in enabling high-impact research and innovation.
