The ATLAS Collaboration at CERN has been awarded the 2025 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics for the discovery of the Higgs boson.

University at Albany physicists M.S. Alam (deceased), Jesse Ernst, and Vivek Jain were long-time members of the collaboration and contributed to the research that led to this historic discovery. Each recently received recognition that they share in the Breakthrough Prize.
