Time Capsule Captures SSW Student-Led Journal
As part of the University at Albany's 175th anniversary celebration earlier this year, a time capsule from 1964 was opened - revealing contents from student life more than fifty years ago. This week, UAlbany showcased the contents of a new time capsule that will go into a cornerstone at Dutch Quad. Each department was asked to submit an item for the capsule, in which the School of Social Welfare opted to include the student-led journal, Critical Conversations, as one of the capsule's contents.
The time capsule will most likely be opened 50 or more years from now, meaning that the UAlbany community of the future will be able to read and hold a copy of the first ever SSW student-led journal.
Critical Conversations was first published in March of 2019, and served as a public platform for students to disseminate their work to the school, University, and community at large. Each submitted article was critically reviewed by a doctoral selection team, with only a handful of submissions from BSW, MSW, and PhD students being chosen. The mission of the journal is to provide a way to further the accomplishments of SSW students, as well as share and connect the knowledge and ideas cultivated at UAlbany, which incorporate social work practice, theory and research, to enhance and impact society.
