About

Tomoko Udo, Ph.D is an Associate Professor at Department of Health Policy, Management, and Behavior, College of Integrated Health Sciences, and Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at University at Albany. Prior to joining UAlbany's College of Integrated Health Sciences, Dr. Udo was an Associate Research Scientist and Junior Faculty Scholar for Yale Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) program at Department of Psychiatry, Yale University School of Medicine. She also completed postdoctoral training at Center of Alcohol Studies, Rutgers University.

Dr. Udo's research focuses on:

  1. Promotion of evidence-based implementation and adaptation of innovative programs for people who use drugs (PWUD) and people with serious mental illness (SMI) through rigorous evaluation
  2. Promotion of public health-public safety partnership to improve quality of life in PWUD and people with SMI
  3. Understanding burdens of substance use and other psychiatric disorders through epidemiological studies, including surveillance of Hepatitis C and HIV among people who inject drugs

In addition, Dr. Udo is a Co-Director of the Center of Collaborative HIV Research in Practice and Policy. Part of her responsibilities include overseeing the funding program for UAlbany students to gain real-world experiences by working with the Office of Program Evaluation and Research (OPER) and Center for Program Development, Implementation, Research and Evaluation (CPDIRE). She also currently serve as a program director for the HIV Studies Certificate program.

  • NYS Incidence Survey for Infectious Disease Elimination (InSIDE) (funded by New York State Department of Health)
  • Evaluation of innovative models of Hepatitis C care and treatment for persons who inject drugs (funded by New York State Department of Health)
  • Evaluation of Albany County Crisis Officials Responding and Diverting (ACCORD) program (funded by New York State Health Foundation; Co-PI Carmen Morano, PhD)
  • Evaluation of Albany Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) program (funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance)
  • Evaluation of Disease Intervention Specialists Workforce Development (funded by New York State Department of Health; Co-PI Erika Martin, PhD)
