Validation of the Coordinated Assessment System Tool

The Center for Human Services Research (CHSR) is conducting a study to validate the new Coordinated Assessment System (CAS) tool that has been developed by the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities(OPWDD) to assess the needs and disability level of consumers in the statewide service system.

Evaluation & Research

The purpose of the study is to provide the state with evidence regarding whether or not the new instrument is a valid measure of the intended concepts of disability and to quantify the degree to which the CAS coordinates with other established measures of disability. Data for the study will be captured through assessment of a stratified sample of individuals representing the full range of disabilities and service settings within the NYS OPWDD system. Collection of data is currently underway, and the anticipated study completion date is Summer 2015.
