State Weather Risk Communication Center (SWRCC)

A First-of-its-kind Partnership for Extreme Weather Preparation & Response

The State Weather Risk Communication Center (SWRCC) improves New York State’s collective preparation for and response to extreme weather events.

The center is a first-of-its-kind partnership between the University at Albany and New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services.

Funded by New York State, SWRCC leverages UAlbany’s expertise in atmospheric sciences to help state and local emergency managers prepare for and respond to impactful weather.

Visit the State Weather Risk Communication Center’s website for weather updates, active weather alerts and additional information about the center.

What does SWRCC do?

The team at the SWRCC works to enhance public safety, optimize weather-related spending, and help New Yorkers better understand how weather, especially high-impact events, may affect communities, infrastructure and agency operations.

Our meteorologists provide real-time, tailored weather information to state agencies, emergency managers and other critical stakeholders before, during and after severe weather events.

Supporting this work, our social scientists develop more effective communication strategies, while our software developers and product scientists build and maintain cutting edge weather products.
