About

James Bloom serves as Assistant Director for Research and Strategic Engagement at the AI Plus Institute at the University at Albany, where he helps design and support professional learning initiatives, collaborative programming and cross-institutional partnerships focused on the human dimensions of emerging technologies.

His work centers on building spaces for meaningful exchange among faculty, students, staff and community partners. Across roles, he has developed and coordinated professional learning programs, facilitated gatherings and supported initiatives that bring together diverse participants to engage thoughtfully with complex questions around teaching, research, equity and institutional change. He is especially invested in collaborative, creative approaches that foster inclusion and prompt a shared sense of purpose.

Bloom’s background as an educator and program leader informs his commitment to people-centered work. He brings curiosity and attentiveness to how communities form, how ideas circulate and how learning environments can support both rigor and belonging. His contributions to the AI Plus Institute reflect a belief that strong programs grow from relationships, trust and sustained engagement across differences.

In addition to his work in professional learning and community engagement, Bloom has extensive experience in grant writing and innovative project development. He supports proposal design, helps identify funding opportunities and partners, and provides project management for complex, multi-institutional initiatives, working closely with collaborators to move ideas from concept to implementation.
