Apply as a Freshman

You should apply as a freshman if you have never attended college before. There are two options for applying as a freshman to UAlbany:

Apply with the Common Application

The Common Application allows you apply to over 500 participating schools with one application. 

OR

Apply with the SUNY Application

The SUNY Application allows you apply to multiple SUNY schools with one application.

    Please note: all enrolled freshmen will need to supply an official final high school transcript with graduation date or the equivalent before the start of classes.

  • Official SAT or ACT scores from the appropriate testing agency - OPTIONAL; please click here for details)
    • UAlbany's SAT Code: 2532
    • UAlbany's ACT Code: 2926

  • Personal essay
    Complete the essay component of at least 250 words on the Common Application or SUNY Supplemental Application.

  • Teacher/Counselor recommendation
    Submit one recommendation from a teacher or counselor.

Early Action Freshman Admission

A non-binding early notification option for first-time freshman applicants. Students must apply by November 15, are guaranteed an admissions decision by late December, and have until May 1 to deposit to secure their admission.

Required:

  • Official transcript(s) reflecting three full years (six semesters/12 quarters) of completed high school coursework
  • Listing of senior year courses in progress and yet to be taken
  • Completed SUNY or Common Application
  • 250+ word essay or personal statement
  • One letter of recommendation from a school counselor or teacher (two are recommended)
  • Submission of ACT or SAT scores is optional for Spring or Fall 2022 admission consideration

Regular Decision Freshman Admission

Traditional application option for rolling freshman decision notification. The deadline for priority consideration is February 1; later applicants will be considered on a space-available basis. Notifications will begin after January 2; on-time applicants are guaranteed an admission decision by the end of March. Admitted applicants have until May 1 to deposit to secure their admission.

Required:

  • Official transcript(s) reflecting three full years (six semesters/12 quarters) of completed high school coursework. Seventh semester (thirteenth and fourteenth quarter) grades are strongly recommended.
  • Listing of senior year courses in progress and yet to be taken
  • Completed SUNY or Common Application
  • 250+ word essay or personal statement
  • One letter of recommendation from a school counselor or teacher (two are recommended)
  • Submission of ACT or SAT scores is optional for Spring or Fall 2022 admission consideration

UAlbany Application Fee Information

The non-refundable application fee is currently US $50. Submit the fee with your application, or request a fee waiver.
