About

Prior to becoming an educator, I worked in publishing for 15 years, first as a publishing coordinator at a publishing company and later as the owner and publisher of a regional monthly magazine in the Hudson Valley, NY. While my years in publishing were exciting and fun, they didn’t come close to the unique experience of teaching.

As a Writing and Critical Inquiry instructor at University at Albany, my goal is to help students explore their own interests and ideas in their writings and discussions. I have found that students are highly motivated when they have control over the focus of their research.

Instruction & Advising

Courses

In my course, we explore topics surrounding technology and its impact on our lives. This topic is highly relevant and interesting to everyone in the class and our class discussions are lively and engaging.

I use a multi-media, multi-modal approach to learning and employ occasional games or other activities to keep things interesting. Students also co-create lesson materials in class, so that they develop skills related to finding, choosing and delivering information related to the learning. My goal as an educator is to help students explore larger topics and expand their world views through conversations, open discussions, research and writing both in and outside of class. I enjoy learning about each student’s interests and perspectives.
