ID Card Services
COVID Update for Fall 2020:
The ID Card Office is virtual during the Fall 2020 semester. Most transactions can be completed online or via the CBORD Mobile ID App. If you need assistance, please email the ID Card Office at firstname.lastname@example.org. Below are some common questions/answers regarding managing your ID Card while the office is virtual:
What should I do if I have lost my UAlbany ID Card?
If you misplace, lose or believe your UAlbany ID Card has been stolen, you must deactivate it as soon as possible. The person to whom a UAlbany ID Card has been issued is responsible for keeping his/her card secure and is liable for all activity on the card until it is deactivated. Refunds are not provided for money or meals fraudulently spent on a UAlbany ID Card. For your protection, cashiers who accept UAlbany ID Card as a form of payment will verify that the card belongs to the person making the purchase and will not accept a UAlbany ID Card as a form of payment if the photo on the card does not match the person using the card. Additionally, cashiers may require a second form of photo identification for purchases made with a UAlbany ID Card or credit card.
How can I deactivate my lost or stolen ID card?
- Immediately online: You can immediately deactivate your physical UAlbany ID Card online at ualbanyid.com or by using the CBORD Mobile ID app. This will lock your card so that no else can use it. This is the most expedient way to protect your card from fraudulent usage. Note that you can continue all card transactions via the CBORD Mobile ID app without disruptions.
- In Person at UPD or your residence hall office: You can stop by the University Police Department or your residence hall office to have your UAlbany ID Card deactivated.
Can I receive a temporary card?
Yes, you can receive a temporary Dane It card from UPD or your residence hall office. The temporary Dane It card will provide access to your residence hall and meal plan. Note that the CBORD Mobile ID App will also continue to allow for all ID Card transactions while your physical card is deactivated, with the exception of door access. Students are required to return the temporary Dane It card to the office it was obtained from or use campus mail to return to the ID Card Office.
If I find my UAlbany ID Card after I have deactivated it, can it be reactivated?
Yes, if you find your UAlbany ID Card or have it returned to you after you have deactivated it, you can now go online to ualbanyid.com or onto the CBORD Mobile ID to reactivate it. You can not reactivate a card that was replaced.
How can I replace a lost, stolen or damaged UAlbany ID Card?
If your physical ID Card is deactivated or worn out, and you need a physical ID Card replacement, please follow the instructions below:
- STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS: Email IDcard@albany.edu with your name, ID number and campus address authorizing a $20 replacement charge to your student account. If your card needs to be replaced due to normal wear and tear, please include a photo of the card and your replacement fee may be waived. Your ID Card will be printed and distributed via campus mail for activation upon receipt. If you do not live on campus, a representative will reach out to arrange pick up.
- EMPLOYEE INSTRUCTIONS: Please log into ualbanyid.com with your NETID and password and follow the prompts: Replace ID Card (loads our GET store) >Set On-Campus Location>Select and Add Replacement>Add Item>My Cart>Check Out>
Make Payment & Complete Order
If you believe your card needs replacement due to normal wear and tear, please email IDcard@albany.edu with your name, ID number and campus address (your department address is acceptable). Your ID Card will be printed and distributed via campus mail for activation upon receipt.
The ID Card office will notify you when your replacement card has been printed and placed in campus mail.
If you have a temporary Dane It card, please return it to the office that issued it or to the ID Card Office via campus mail after you have activated your new ID Card.
Once a UAlbany ID Card has been replaced by a new one, the previously issued card will be permanently deactivated. The $20 replace fee is non-refundable should you locate your previous card after a new one has been issued.
Why is my bus access not working with my replacement card?
With the exception of the CDTA bus service, all UAlbany ID Card services previously assigned to your card will automatically carry over to your replacement card. For CDTA swipe service, please note that it will take 3 business days for CDTA to update their system with your new magnetic stripe information. As a result, when you swipe your new card to ride the CDTA bus, you may be denied from riding until the CDTA system is fully updated. Also, if you are not registered for classes during the current semester or are not a current University employee, you will be denied from riding CDTA or the UAlbany purple bus routes with your card.

ID Card Safety
If you misplace, lose or believe your UAlbany ID Card has been stolen, you must deactivate it as soon as possible (it can be reactivated if found without buying a new card). The person to whom a UAlbany ID Card has been issued is responsible for keeping his/her card secure and is liable for all activity on the UAlbany ID Card until it is deactivated.
Your UAlbany ID Card gives you access to your residential housing and all your campus funds (i.e., meal plan, Discount Dollars, Munch Money, Podium, Campus Gold, etc), so think of your card as if it is your 'house' key and credit card - combined!
For your protection and safety, your UAlbany ID Card can be used by only you. Cashiers who accept UAlbany ID Cards as a form of payment will verify that the card belongs to the person making the purchase and will not accept a UAlbany ID Card as a form of payment if the photo on the card does not match the person using the card. Additionally, cashiers may require a second form of photo identification for purchases made with a UAlbany ID Card or credit card.
Purchases made with your UAlbany ID Card that exceed $25 will require a second form of picture identification. Refunds are not provided for money or meals fraudulently spent on a UAlbany ID Card.
Any department or organization that accepts your UAlbany ID Card as a form of payment, verification, or access to events or services has the right to confiscate your card if the card does not belong to the person using the card. Confiscated cards will not be returned to the original cardholder. Anyone involved in the fraudulent use of a UAlbany ID Card is subject to card replacement costs and may be subject to conduct review and University policies.
University at Albany students, faculty members, or University or affiliated entity staff can now modify a Preferred First Name for their ID Cards. Learn more about how to make these changes and about the University Preferred Name Policy here.
