Professor Celeste Montoya, Associate Professor at the University of Colorado Boulder

Celeste Montoya is an associate professor of political science and women & gender studies at the University of Colorado Boulder. Her research primarily focuses on the ways in which women and racialized communities mobilize to enact change with a particular focus on Latinas and other women of color. She is interested in how marginalized groups mobilize within and outside of political institutions, domestically and transnationally.

Professor Montoya’s work emphasizes intersectionality as a phenomenon as well as an approach. She has published on social movements, gender violence, voting rights, and political representation. Her most current and ongoing work focuses on US Latina political leadership and activism. Professor Montoya is author of From Global to Grassroots: The European Union, Transnational Advocacy, and Combating Violence against Women (Oxford University Press 2013) and co-editor of Gendered Mobilizations and Intersectional Challenges (ECPR Press 2019). She is also co-editor for the American Political Science Review and for the Temple University Press book series Intersectionality.
