Sarah Peter Nelson is a pioneering communications and media specialist whose career bridges public policy, journalism and leadership. She currently serves as a Program Coordinator and Communications Manager at the Center for Women in Government & Civil Society (CWGCS), where she also is a Lecturer within the Center’s prestigious flagship Fellowship Program for Women in Public Policy, a platform that shapes the next generation of transformative leaders.
Sarah also brings experience from New York State Government, where she served as a policy advisory within the Executive Division of Criminal Justice Services, contributing to strategic policy development and communication initiatives as part of a distinguished statewide leadership initiative.
With a career that spans continents, Sarah has worked with global institutions such as the United Nations and served as a Foreign Correspondent for Reuters, reporting on governance, human rights and social development issues across the world. She is recognized for her ability to transform complex ideas into powerful narratives that inspire action and elevate perspectives often absent from mainstream discourse.
A dedicated scholar-practitioner, Sarah holds a master's degree in international journalism from Cardiff University (UK), as well as two master's degrees in communication and political science from the University at Albany. She has also earned a graduate certificate in public sector management and is an alum of Columbia University, where she pursued studies in international affairs.
Her work has earned international recognition from the U.S. Department of State, the Inter-American Press Association and the Foreign Press Correspondents Association in New York, where she made history as the first journalist from the Caribbean region to receive this distinction.
As a media innovator and educator, Sarah continues to advance inclusive communication strategies that engage diverse audiences, promote gender equity, and strengthen democratic governance.
