This 6-credit, undergraduate-level AI & Innovation Economics microcredential program offered by the Department of Economics in UAlbany's College of Arts and Sciences includes two courses.

Completion Requirements

The AI & Innovation Economics microcredential is stackable and will put you on a path to completing an BA in Economics, a BS in Business Economics or a BS in Quantitative Economics and Data Analysis from the Department of Economics in the College of Arts and Science.

Completion requirements for this microcredential include:  

  • Complete the following two courses (or an equivalent course, subject to departmental approval) with a passing grade:
    • AECO 372 - Artificial Intelligence for Business and Economics: Examine AI’s impact on labor markets, firm strategy and ethical considerations such as bias and privacy. Gain proficiency in machine learning models.  
    • AECO 373 - Economics of Innovation and New Technology: Analyze how policy and regulation influence research and development (R&D) and technology diffusion. Study inventor labor markets, firm innovation strategies, and the economic and societal impact of technological change.

Learning Objectives

By completing this microcredential you will be proficient in:

  • Evaluating AI’s impact on labor markets, firm strategy and ethical considerations
  • Applying supervised and unsupervised machine learning models to analyze real-world business and economic data 
  • Analyzing how government funding, regulation, intellectual property law and policy influence R&D, technology diffusion, and industry networks
  • Examining labor market for inventors, the organization of innovation within firms and institutions, and the economic impacts of technological change

Eligibility
