History Professor Richard Hamm was named a distinguished teaching professor, a designation signifying outstanding and consistent teaching mastery over multiple years.

RNA Scientists Advance Early Detection of Duchene Muscular Dystrophy
The devastating effects of Duchene muscular dystrophy (DMD) can be mitigated if detection takes place in early childhood. Sadly, early diagnosis is rare. Now, University RNA researchers have discovered a novel method that could solve this long-standing problem. The research team, from the UAlbany laboratories Professor Igor Lednev of Chemistry and Bijan Dey —a principal investigator of the RNA Institute and an associate faculty member of Biological Sciences, respectively— published its findings on July 16 in the journal Nature Scientific Reports.
A Musicologist Traces 100 Years of the Chicago Musical College’s Modernism and Inclusion
Nancy Newman, associate professor of Music and Theatre, is now at work on a book project that examines the CMC, one of the nation’s oldest conservatories, which operates today as Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts. Beyond paying homage to CMC’s output of famed graduates in composition, performance and music education, Newman will examine its role in the dramatic demographic and ideological advancement of the Midwestern metropolis well into the 20th century.
WISH Essay Awards: A Display of Intellect Good for the Soul
WISH — Women in Science and Health — an organization of women faculty at UAlbany that fosters scientific networking and skill-building opportunities for students, postdocs and faculty in the STEM fields in order to promote gender equality and work-life balance, extended its essay deadline due to COVID-19 and also took its April 17 awards ceremony online via Zoom. The awards were open to students and postdocs of any gender in a STEM field.
