Youqin Huang

Youqin Huang is the Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Success and a Professor in the Department of Geography and Planning.

As associate vice provost, Dr. Huang is responsible for developing and overseeing university-wide faculty success programs (mentoring, awards, and leadership); developing and implementing initiatives to support and foster faculty research; overseeing the appointments, renewal and promotion of lecturers and adjuncts; and enhancing workforce development initiatives. She also oversees CATLOE, the selection of the Grand Marshal for Commencement, the University Medallion process and numerous other areas related to faculty success.

With more than 20 years of service to the University, Dr. Huang’s many previous leadership roles include executive director of the Confucius Institute for China’s Culture and Economy, chair of the Department of Geography and Planning, and president of UAlbany Asian Coalitions of Professionals.

Her research is focused on housing, migration, and health and well-being with a regional focus on China. She is the co-director of the Urban China Research Network and remains committed to fostering the next generation of China scholars.

Dr. Huang has authored and edited ten books and published numerous journal articles and book chapters. She is the recipient of many awards, including an “Outstanding Service Award” from both the American Association of Geographers and the Chinese Community Center of the Capital District and two President’s Excellence Awards — for exemplary public engagement and research/creative activities — from UAlbany.
