Great Danes Honored for Academic, On-Field Success
ALBANY, N.Y. (June 30, 2026) — From conference championships and NCAA appearances to standout work in the classroom, UAlbany student-athletes made their mark on and off the field during the 2025-26 academic year.
Two recent honors recognized 19 Great Danes across 11 sports, showcasing the breadth of academic and athletic achievement throughout UAlbany’s Division I program.
Seven student-athletes were named SUNY Scholar-Athletes of the Year, while 12 graduating Great Danes earned America East Presidential Scholar-Athlete honors.
SUNY Scholar-Athletes of the Year
State University of New York Chancellor John B. King Jr announced the 2025-26 SUNY Scholar-Athletes of the Year, recognizing students who paired academic achievement with standout performances in competition.
UAlbany’s seven honorees were Shynelle Woroniuk in volleyball, Pilar Lorenzini in the fall women’s at-large category for field hockey, Amir Lindsey in men’s basketball, Max Neeson in men’s lacrosse, Brooks Robson and Lalenii Grant in men’s and women’s outdoor track and field, respectively, and Skylar Dannan in the spring women’s at-large category for rowing.
The SUNY Scholar Athlete Awards recognized 71 student-athletes from SUNY colleges and universities sponsoring intercollegiate athletics at the four- and two-year levels who were nominated and voted upon by representatives of their respective institutions.
More than 14,000 student-athletes compete at SUNY institutions representing 53 different colleges and universities at the NCAA Division I, NCAA Division III/USCAA, and NJCAA levels and are eligible for the awards.
America East Presidential Scholars
A total of 12 Great Danes have earned America East Presidential Scholar-Athlete honors, the conference recently announced.
From UAlbany, the honorees include Kodai Tsuzuki in men's soccer, Casey Stowell, Hailey Hnis and Madison Hnis in women's soccer, Nikolas Christian in men's cross country, Dora Filipovic, Anna Myhal and Tori Wilson in women's volleyball, Cade Galko and Austin Oppenheim in men's lacrosse, and Molly McGrath and Delaney McManus in women's lacrosse.
The award recognizes graduating student-athletes who compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher as undergraduate students and earned their undergraduate degree during the 2025-26 academic year.
In addition to registering a 3.75 GPA for their college career, honored student-athletes must have received their undergraduate degree in the academic year they are honored, attended their institution for a minimum of two years if a transfer student-athlete, and completed their degree as an undergraduate student.
