Campus Update - Our Continued Commitment to Digital Accessibility
Tuesday, May 5, 2026
Dear Colleagues,
The U.S. Department of Justice published an Interim Final Rule on Monday, April 20, 2026, extending the compliance dates for the new ADA Title II EIT accessibility requirements by one (1) year. Consequently, the federal deadline for ADA Title II digital accessibility compliance has been pushed back from April 24, 2026, to April 26, 2027.
While the compliance deadline has been extended into 2027, UAlbany’s commitment to delivering and implementing accessibility improvements can be maintained without pausing or diminishing our momentum. UAlbany’s campus-wide investment to ensure our digital systems and services are accessible stems from our desire to create an equitable, global community, and accessibility is paramount for creating an inclusive and user-friendly digital environment for all on campus, particularly those with disabilities.
The Electronic and Information Technology (EIT) Committee will continue to lead efforts to enhance accessibility across digital resources. More information, including tools and training related to digital accessibility are readily available on the University’s Digital Accessibility website.
We extend our sincere gratitude to faculty and staff for their unwavering commitment to integrating digital accessibility into every facet of the University’s teaching, learning, research, and service delivery. Through our collaborative efforts, we are continually constructing a robust and inclusive culture that empowers all members of the UAlbany community to achieve their full potential.
Sincerely,
