Albany, N. Y (July 17, 2025) — Albany was recently ranked fourth in LinkedIn’s inaugural “Cities on the Rise 2025,” a review of the 25 fastest-growing U.S. metro cities for jobs and new talent. The ranking spotlights mid-size U.S. cities with vibrant job markets and growing professional communities

According to the report, the Albany metro area is emerging as a powerful magnet for talent, economic development and innovation—with the University at Albany playing a key role in its growth. The report highlights the University’s $1 billion economic impact on the local economy, which the institution released in a report last fall.

At the time, UAlbany President Havidán Rodríguez said: “From creating jobs with construction projects to preparing the next generation of our state’s high-tech workforce to conducting research that unlocks new industries like semiconductor manufacturing and biotechnology, UAlbany is leading our community forward.”

LinkedIn notes UAlbany is “helping to fuel the city’s momentum as a growing hub for high tech jobs and semiconductor research.” The University has invested in high-tech fields, which have contributed to Albany’s reputation as a rising hub for 21st-century jobs.

As one of the nation’s most diverse Research 1 institutions, the University also continues to build on research that benefits the public good, focusing on areas with significant potential for real-world impact. In addition to semiconductor research, the University has also focused on innovative fields such as artificial intelligence, climate and environmental sciences, social and health equity, drug discovery and cybersecurity.

One of four research centers within the State University of New York, UAlbany also serves as a critical regional research and commercialization hub where scientists work with industry to translate basic research into products that can help people.

The Cities on the Rise ranking analyzed LinkedIn’s exclusive labor market data to identify 25 emerging metro areas where hiring is accelerating, job postings are surging and talent migration is reshaping local economies.
