Muntasir Masum received two grants to study alcohol use and cardiac health. A $100,000 SUNY AI Platform Award will support AI-driven research on drinking habits, biomarkers and social factors in early midlife, to improve prevention strategies. A $15,000 Bridge Funding Award will support a K01 Research Scientist Development Award and enable a graduate assistant to study cardiac effects of binge drinking.

Jorge Gonzalez-Cruz and F.B. Oppong of the Atmospheric Sciences Research Center have published a study in the journal Geophysical Research Letters that shows extreme heatwaves in the Caribbean have become much more frequent, prolonged and intense over the last five decades. The findings will provide valuable insight to help improve preparations for future extreme heat events in the region.

Jeannette Sutton, associate professor in the Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, testified before the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce on strategies to strengthen public safety communications nationwide. Watch the hearing.
