What are SNAP and WIC benefits? Am I eligible?
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a federal program that provides eligible citizens, permanent residents and some foreign nationals with specific statuses with monthly cash assistance in the form of a benefits card that works like a credit card at grocery stores. Only certain food items can be purchased using this benefit.
Determining SNAP eligibility can be complicated, so we provide resources to assist you in determining whether you meet the criteria to get this important benefit:
Get help filing your SNAP application (recommended option)
Instructions for students who live on-campus or off-campus in Albany County
- Fill out a short SNAP eligibility form to help you assess your eligibility.
- If you don’t want to print the form yourself, you can pick up a copy from the Dean of Students office (Campus Center 137) or the Supplemental Support Services office (Campus Center 332, across from the Purple Pantry).
- Write your name, email address and phone number in the upper right corner of the completed eligibility form.
- Send a scanned copy of your completed form to Ms. Cherise Bollers from the Legal Aid Society of Northeastern New York’s Albany Office at [email protected].
- If you don’t want to scan and email the form yourself, you can drop it off at the Dean of Students office (Campus Center 137) or the Supplemental Support Services office (Campus Center 332, across from the Purple Pantry). Forms can be slid under the door after hours.
- Work with Ms. Bollers, who will reach out to you directly, to apply for SNAP benefits.
Instructions for students who live outside Albany County
- Fill out a short SNAP eligibility form to help you assess your eligibility.
- If you don’t want to print the form yourself, you can pick up a copy from the Dean of Students office (Campus Center 137) or the Supplemental Support Services office (Campus Center 332, across from the Purple Pantry).
- Enter your zip code into this Help with SNAP tool to find contact information for an organization who can help you apply.
- Work with that organization directly to apply for SNAP benefits.
