Freshmen Student Orientation Information

Pre-Arrival Checklist: Please complete the below tasks before you arrive at UAlbany

  1. Set Up Your MyUAlbany and University Email Account
    • Information on how to do so is available here. Check your albany.edu email address at least twice a week before and after arrival. All official communication from the University will be sent to your UAlbany email.
  2. Orientation Registration
    • Register for Orientation by logging in to MyUAlbany using your NetID and password.   Click on the "Campus Life" tab on the top, then click on "Register for Orientation" on the left of the page.
    • All of Orientation is mandatory.  Freshmen must attend both International Student Orientation and Freshman Orientation.  Registration opens May 1, 2019.
    • Orientation begins on Sunday, August 18th in the Campus Center Ballroom. Please check-in at the Campus Center Ballroom between 3:00pm-4:00pm.  Students are required to attend International and Freshman Orientation, August 18th-August 23rd.
    • While filling out the Orientation Registration form, you will be asked several questions about your academic plans in order to begin course registration.  Course registration will be finalized at Orientation.  To read more about course registration, please click here
    • If you encounter problems registering for Orientation, please contact Orientation and Transition Programs at orientation@albany.edu.   You must use your NetID (ex: AB123456) and password to register.  In order to receive your NetID, you must have already paid your admissions deposit, afterwards an email with a pin will be sent to you. For help setting up your NetID, please review instructions from ITS (Information Technology Services) here.
    • There is a New Student fee of $255 that will be charged to your student account.
    • Please review and print the Orientation confirmation materials sent to your UAlbany email address.
  3. Apply for Campus Housing
    • All freshman are required to live on-campus for their first two years.  Find information on sign-up here.
    • Housing sign-up is done through the Office of Residential Life.
    • Housing assignments will be sent to your Albany.edu email address in early August.
    • You may move in to your room according to the dates on the housing email you receive.  For international students, your move in date should be  on Sunday, August 18th at noon.  If your email says something different please contact ISSS@albany.edu.  If you arrive before then, please arrange for a hotel.
  4. Submit your Mandatory "Required Health Form" to Student Health Services
    • The Mandatory "Required Health Form" and MMR documentation must be turned in to Student Health Services by August 1st, 2019. Failure to meet this requirement will jeopardize your fall course registration.  For help, please email healthforms@albany.edu 
    • In addition to the form, students must also show documentation that they have met the MMR requirement, requirement for TB testing, and certify that they meet the meningitis requirement in MyUAlbany.  More information on these requirements can be found here.
  5. Upload your photo for your ID Card through MyUAlbany
    • Upload your photo at least two weeks before arrival so that your ID card is ready for you to pick-up at Orientation check-in. Your ID Card gives you access to on-campus housing, dining plans, and other campus resources based on eligibility.
  6. Log in to ISSS's Required Pre-Orientation on Blackboard

    • Please successfully complete the required assignments for Academic Integrity, Cultural Adjustment, and Managing Your Finances prior to arrival.
