With fast paced action, immersive gameplay and the need for critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork, strategy and communication, it is clear why eSports events rival not only the production quality, but also the viewership and cultural impact of traditional sporting events such as the Super Bowl.
eSports is truly a global phenomenon. The University at Albany is proud to be a leader in this space and to provide our students with a variety of opportunities for participation.
Launched in the Spring of 2019, UAlbany eSports competes alongside 56 other schools in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Our co-ed teams are comprised of students across a variety of majors, backgrounds and class years.
UAlbany eSports is one of two schools fielding teams in all eight games offered the by the ECAC: Overwatch, League of Legends, Fortnite, Rocket League, Madden, FIFA, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Hearthstone and our active roster of over 70 students is one of the largest in the conference. UAlbany eSports is also looking forward to launching our Women’s League in Overwatch in the Spring of 2020.
Members of the team work together in weekly practices, games, and team meetings in our state of the art eSports arena, featuring high performance Alienware computers and Nintendo Switch consoles. Students receive team apparel and represent the University in online and in-person events.
Participants in UAlbany eSports are dedicated to professionalism and excellence in eSports and academics. There are several leadership opportunities available for students including student assistants, game commentators and broadcasters and team captains.
Students interested in participating in UAlbany eSports for the Spring 2020 season should complete our General Interest Form.
Members of our competitive team are selected based upon a variety of criteria including a student’s resume, in-game tryouts, game experience, campus involvement and in-person interviews. UAlbany eSports is committed to being a welcoming, diverse, inclusive and positive community for gamers of all abilities.
UAlbany eSports is made possible through the support of the Office of the President and Student Affairs.
