From the NYACTE Award Announcement:

Dr. Virginia Goatley demonstrates extraordinary service to her students, to her institution, to K-12 and teacher education in New York State, to literacy research and instruction and to the education profession as a whole.

Her detailed, open-minded understandings of key issues, wisdom, deeply ethical practice, and courage to act, even in contentious times, reflect exemplary practice that has enabled countless others to reach their individual, institutional, and community goals.

Dr. Goatley has numerous examples of leadership where she has given wise counsel and mentoring and has fostered a culture of continuous learning and emphasis on supporting learning across contexts. She has led her colleagues through rapidly changing terrain, including moving programs online, addressing certification changes and the evolving demands of clinically rich teacher preparation and more. Her teaching of literacy instruction and research courses and her work with the Albany Teaching Center and schools across the region provide added evidence of her active promotion of the growth and development of P-12 students.
