Our paper, “Design and Evaluation of Mixed Reality Systems for Enhanced Overground Rehabilitation,” accepted for the SIGGRAPH 2026 poster session

Our paper, “Design and Evaluation of Mixed Reality Systems for Enhanced Overground Rehabilitation,” has been accepted for the SIGGRAPH 2026 poster session. The authors are Jeremy Varghese, Aishwari Talhan, Amy Teale, and Thenkurussi Kesavadas. The team will present at SIGGRAPH 2026 in Los Angeles, California, July 19 to 23, 2026. (Exact schedule TBD.)

The work explores how Mixed Reality (MR) combined with dynamic body weight support (DBWS) can enable safe, immersive, and embodied lower-limb rehabilitation. We developed controller-free, task-based MR interactions aligned with real-world movement and deployed the system in a clinical setting at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital. Early findings demonstrate strong patient engagement and promising gait trends, underscoring the importance of adaptive, personalized rehabilitation strategies.

We are grateful to our interdisciplinary collaborators across XR, AI, and clinical care, and look forward to presenting this work and engaging with the SIGGRAPH community. We’re especially excited to see Immersion Lab at UAlbany represented on the SIGGRAPH stage.
