UAlbany Faculty Author Major Introductory Public Health Titles
ALBANY, N.Y. (October 29, 2020) – While developing advanced knowledge, conducting groundbreaking research and helping guide critical pandemic response, UAlbany School of Public Health faculty also recognize that sharing the basics of the field is fundamental to public health success. They hold authorship on several major introductory titles used to train public health students, each recently updated to include COVID-19 information.
Important introductory textbooks authored by UAlbany faculty include:

- Essentials of Public Health (Guthrie S. Birkhead)
- Introduction to Public Health (Mary Jane Schneider)
- Turnock’s Public Health: What It Is and How It Works (Guthrie S. Birkhead)
These are just a few of the textbooks that UAlbany School of Public Health faculty contribute to, in addition to publishing in renowned academic journals. These titles are frequently used in undergraduate classrooms across the United States. “Undergraduate students have a significant impact on public health,” says Brenda Kirkwood, co-author of Public Health 101: Improving Community Health. “Whether they are enrolled in a formal program like our public health major, or are just taking a course out of interest, providing undergraduate students with timely public health education leads to the development of new ways of thought, innovative programs and ultimately the improvement of public health in various communities.”
