Dr. Otis Brawley Shares Expertise at 10th Annual Hogarty Lecture

ALBANY, N.Y. (October 14, 2020) - Last night on October 13, 2020, the University at Albany School of Public Health was thrilled to welcome Dr. Otis Brawley virtually to campus to give the 10th Annual Hogarty Lecture, made possible thanks to the support of Dan and Ellen Hogarty and their daughter Sheila Mendelson. This year's topic was cancer control in the 21st century with an emphasis on health disparities. 

Dr. Otis Brawley is the Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of Oncology and Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins University and a globally-recognized expert in cancer prevention and control. His research focuses on developing cancer screening strategies and ensuring their effectiveness. He has led groundbreaking efforts to decrease smoking and implement other lifestyle risk reduction programs, as well as to provide critical support to cancer patients and concentrate cancer control efforts in areas where they could be most effective. Of note, Dr. Brawley has worked tirelessly to move us closer towards a world where we have no racial, economic, and social disparities in the prevention, detection, and treatment of cancer.

Dr. Brawley provided excellent insight into cancer control and prevention during last night's event, which stood as a highlight of the School of Public Health's virtual events in celebration of its 35th anniversary.
