About

Dr. Sekhobo is the Director of the Evaluation, Research, and Surveillance Unit in the Division of Nutrition of the New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH). Prior to his current position. Prior to his current position, he was an Assistant Medical Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the City University of New York (CUNY) Medical School, City College of New York from 2004-2008. Dr. Sekhobo has authored, co-authored, and supervised articles on the nutrition-related epidemics of obesity and diabetes mellitus as well as on the evaluation of statewide nutrition programs. He has also served on the Evaluation Committee for the National WIC Association, an Advisory Expert Panel for the Third National Survey of WIC Participants as well as Planning and Scientific Committees for WIC-related studies undertaken by the Health and Medicine Division of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering & Medicine. He has served as a peer reviewer for WIC-related effectiveness research reports produced by John’s Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health and the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). Within the NYS DOH, he has served as the Principal Investigator for several federally funded grants focused on the evaluation of innovative interventions implemented by the New York State Special Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). His ongoing public health research activities include the annual monitoring of statewide and regional food security prevalence using data from the NYS Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) as well as the statistical forecasting of WIC participation and expenditures using program administration data.
