NASW-NYS Highlights Faculty, Alumni

This Is Social Work NASW-NYS

The National Association of Social Workers - New York State Chapter launched the This is Social Work campaign in February 2020. The project aims to spread awareness about the diversity of the social work profession and highlight the vibrant, dedicated personalities of social workers through interviewing and storytelling.

UAlbany MSW student, Kwamiah Little, is completing her social work macro field placement at NASW-NYS. She laid the groundwork for this campaign by developing the initiative, leading the marketing plan, and interviewing social workers from across NYS. Gabrielle Buffoline, who is also a UAlbany MSW student interning at NASW-NYS, assisted Little with the interviews.

The interviews consist of compelling stories from social work professionals who empower people at the individual, group, and community level. These profiles include School of Social Welfare faculty, such as Dr. Mary McCarthy and Victoria Rizzo, as well as many of our fantastic alumni. Tamara Walker, Al Cardillo, Gordon Collier, and Carmen Duncan are just a few of the SSW graduates who are featured in the initial rollout of this project.

“I feel incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to speak with different professionals from the field. I am so inspired by their journeys, their knowledge, and their commitment to Social Work. I hope these interviews will change the lens that Social Work is seen through,” said Kwamiah Little about working on this project.
