Reminder About Safety On Campus and Off

Reminder about Safety On Campus and Off

Both the University Police Department and the Albany Police Department received reports overnight of a male suspect having unwanted contact with several women last evening, including one instance on our Uptown Campus.  While we believe the suspect in these cases is currently in custody, this is an opportune time as the weather gets warmer to remind students of ways to keep safe on and off campus.

We are committed to the safety of our faculty, staff, and students and encourage our community to employ the following strategies:

  1. Walk in groups: When possible, walk in groups of three or more. Data shows that being with a group is safer than traveling alone.
  2. Stay in well-lit areas: Do your best to travel in places that are brightly lit.
  3. Be aware of your surroundings: Always be aware of who is around you. If you notice someone following you, move to an area where there are more people and call for help.

If you see suspicious activity, contact UPD immediately at 518-442-3131.

You may also contact UPD by:

Dialing 911 from any campus phone or a Blue Light phone.

Using the Rave Guardian app chat function. The app is available in the

Apple App and Google Play stores.

Through our website on the Anonymous Reporting Form.

Sincerely,

Paul Burlingame

Chief of Police
