The University at Albany's chapter of the national undergraduate honor society, Phi Beta Kappa
The Phi Beta Kappa Society is the nation’s oldest academic honor society. Founded in 1776, it has been a venue for the advancement of the Arts and Sciences for more than two centuries, and many of the nation’s most distinguished public figures have been members. The University at Albany has hosted its chapter, the Alpha Alpha Chapter of New York, since 1974.
Students who have compiled an outstanding academic record at the University at Albany, State University of New York may be elected members of the Society in their senior year, or, if they do exceptionally well, in their junior year. To be considered for election, students must achieve a high GPA while demonstrating breadth of learning by taking courses across the Arts and Sciences.
Learn more specifics of the course requirements on the Membership Page.
Every student is considered automatically considered by the University’s Phi Beta Kappa chapter, so there is no application or nomination required. Instead, qualified students are elected by the chapter membership and invitations are extended each year.
