Cybersecurity Lab (BB 134)
UAlbany’s Cybersecurity Lab is a quarantined lab that facilitates research on active malware security and resilience of cyberphysical systems, particularly connected vehicles and Smart Grid. It includes workstations for 6-8 students, and is connected to the Center Director’s office.
The research lab is equipped with smart meters, traffic signals and software necessary to facilitate: understanding of CPS protocols; analysis of CPS security; creation of guidelines, standards and tools for data collection and forensic analysis; real-time systems monitoring; and system resiliency testing against different attacks in a quarantined environment; as well as protocol development for situational awareness of system anomalies, incidents, incident responses, and actionable intelligence.
Forensics Teaching Labs (BB121, 123)
Both cybersecurity teaching labs share their own distinct network segment, with a range of forensics tools and programs. Traffic is directed through the main server. This provides the ability to reconfigure labs with software and placement of workstations for collaborative work and attack/defense exercises.
The labs are designed to cover a range of investigative practices, from email to web activities to live and memory investigations. Instructor stations have an extensive multimedia console, allowing instructors and students to create dynamic learning environment with both virtual and physical hardware.
Cyber Innovation Lab
UAlbany is developing a Cyber Innovation Lab as a resource to the school’s broad range of cybersecurity curricula and activities. The lab will be designed to allow live network attack and defense research, to collect data, and for use by researchers in testing their research tools and algorithms for intrusion detection and forensic analysis. This lab will also be used to support student learning through active visualization of attacks and defense.
The Cyber Innovation lab will be leveraged for UAlbany’s CyberExplorers camp program, and executive training sessions for the Partnership to Advance Cybersecurity Education and Training (PACET), a regional cybersecurity partnership that UAlbany is developing with regional partners and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
