Modern Korean history; political economy of everyday life; capitalism and finance; gender, family, and domesticity; Cold War and postcolonial Asia.
Eunhee Park is a historian of modern Korea whose research examines the political economy of everyday life, with particular interests in capitalism, finance, gender and material culture. Her work asks how large-scale economic transformations were experienced and negotiated through households, informal markets, gendered labor, and everyday practices.
Her current book manuscript, Her Tactical Purse: Housewives, Finance, and Cold War Capitalism in South Korea, examines household finance during South Korea’s rapid development, focusing on budgeting, covert savings, rotating credit associations (kye), informal lending, and household purse authority.
