Changemakers: UAlbany Art History Students On and Beyond Campus

UAlbany graduate, Sydney Pennington.

Sydney Pennington '23 graduated with combined studies in Computer Science, Art History and Mathematics. Since graduating, she has held internships across multiple departments, including graphic design, marketing and social media, in cultural institutions, including the Brooklyn Museum, The Studio Museum in Harlem and networking startup TechWalk. More recently, she’s done printwork and assisted artist workshops at the Center for Book Arts and is the active Brand Designer for non-profit Collections That Care. Currently, she’s exploring ways to combine her coding skills and love for art through a project honoring visual artist and educator Richard Mayhew.

Sydney’s time as Social Media Assistant at the University Museum and coursework, notably the Global Surrealism Research Seminar, where she examined the paradoxes of Surrealism in relation to Black artists, made her a strong candidate for these opportunities. Through each experience, she gained in-depth knowledge of art movements and developed skills in researching and writing about art.
