ALBANY, N.Y. (Feb. 18, 2026) — The University at Albany has been named one of the 2026 Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs for the second year in a row. Awarded by ACPA - College Student Educators International (ACPA) and EDU Ledger, the annual recognition celebrates student affairs workplaces that support work-life balance, professional development and inclusive excellence.  The University was one of 30 institutions to receive the designation this year.

“The University at Albany is committed to fostering an environment where our staff feel valued, supported and empowered to make a difference in students’ lives,” said Michael Christakis, vice president for student affairs and enrollment. “Being named as one of the Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs reflects the hard work and dedication of our staff, who strive to support a vibrant and inclusive environment where every member of our community can succeed. We are grateful to ACPA and EDU Ledger for highlighting the importance of maintaining a workplace that supports both staff excellence and student success.”

UAlbany was selected for the honor following an assessment of the institution’s focus on workplace diversity, staffing practices and work environment. The University's Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment supports annual initiatives that enhance the work of its team, such as: employee participation on divisional councils and committees; highlighting team members through both an annual awards program and departmental recognition; supporting professional development opportunities with programs that promote learning and connections; and encouraging engagement in local, regional and national professional associations.

Recently the University launched Thrive UAlbany, a campus-wide wellness initiative that brings together resources that help students stay well, feel connected and prepare for what comes next. The initiative supports an environment where employees and students can succeed and furthers the institution’s role as a Health Promoting University.

The Most Promising Places to Work highlights qualities such as demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence, encouraging work across silos and fostering a sense of belonging.

The designation informs higher education leaders about the practices and achievements of fellow institutions that can be used to support their own student affairs departments, while also serving as a useful tool for employers, career services staff and jobseekers across the country.

UAlbany will attend a reception celebrating those who received the honor on March 31 at the ACPA26 Convention in Baltimore, Maryland. The University will be also highlighted in a future edition of EDU Ledger in recognition of their selection and achievement.
