ALBANY, N.Y. (Dec. 2, 2025) — The Friday Knights Supported Recreation Program, an initiative supporting Capital Region youth with autism spectrum disorders, held its last session of the year on Friday, Nov. 21.
Founded in 2004 by College of Saint Rose Professor Susan DeLuke, the program ran for 20 years at Saint Rose until the college’s closure last year forced it to find a new home. UAlbany’s School of Education stepped up and agreed to work with DeLuke to transition the program over to UAlbany.
The program, which provides children with autism and their families a place to go for specialized recreation and socialization, launched in March of this year at UAlbany with three sessions in the spring and five sessions in the fall. Directed by Haley Muir-Knox, visiting assistant professor in UAlbany’s Department of Education and Counseling Psychology, the program is run with the help of UAlbany faculty, staff and student volunteers, as well as volunteers from the community.
The last session of the year, held in UAlbany’s Catskill building, included a glow party with glow sticks for children to dance with, as well as a host of other arts, crafts, STEM activities and games.

The Friday Knights program is supported this year by a grant from the University’s Strategic Allocation of Resources (StAR) program.
