Music and Theatre Fall Season Features Plays, Concerts and Collaborations
ALBANY, N.Y. (Oct. 8, 2026) — Dramatic productions, concerts featuring UAlbany students and faculty and collaborations with alumni and regional artists highlight the fall performance season from the University at Albany’s Department of Music and Theatre.
The season opens Oct. 18 with an alumni concert and continues through Dec. 7, with performances ranging from orchestra, choral music and jazz to contemporary and classic theatre and dance.
“This fall really shows the range of what Music and Theatre offers, and how it contributes to the arts and life on campus,” said Music and Theatre Chair Kathryn Walat, an associate professor and resident playwright. “We hope that audiences will join us and experience the exciting work that our students, faculty and guest artists are creating.”
The Theatre Program opens its fall slate Oct. 21-25 with Adam Bock’s The Drunken City, directed by Desirée Chappelle Streeter. The comedy follows a bride-to-be whose chance encounter during a night out leads her to question her future, sending her friends scrambling to find her. The play explores friendship, love and the consequences of making life-changing choices.
Music performances include a shared concert by the University Orchestra and Concert Band on Oct. 25 and the Fall Choral Hour on Nov. 1.
On Nov. 7, UAlbany ensemble-in-residence Capital Duo, featuring pianist Duncan Cumming and violinist Hilary Cumming, will join the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company for an evening of live music and dance celebrating the ensembles’ respective anniversaries. The program includes music by María Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir, Béla Bartók, Bedřich Smetana and George Gershwin.
The Theatre Program returns Nov. 18-22 with Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, presented in a new version by playwright Amy Herzog and directed by visiting assistant professor of acting Kea Trevett, making her UAlbany directing debut. The landmark drama follows Nora Helmer as the carefully constructed world around her begins to unravel, forcing her to reconsider her marriage and the life she has built.
The semester closes with a free Student Recital on Dec. 2, the ever-popular annual Holiday Concert on Dec. 6 and Twelve Drummers Drummin’ & Jazz Ensemble on Dec. 7. Tickets for most performances range from $3 to $25.
