Fall Sports Season Underway as Football Hosts Season Opener
ALBANY, N.Y. (Aug. 27, 2026) — The fall sports season is underway at UAlbany, highlighted by football’s 2026 season opener Friday night against New Hampshire at Bob Ford Field at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.
Football opens Friday night
The football team kicks off its 2026 campaign Friday at 7 p.m. against Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rival New Hampshire in the first of five home games this fall. Tickets are now on sale.
The season opener will feature Blackout Night and halftime fireworks, along with a revamped game day experience at Casey Stadium. Great Dane Game Day, presented by Pepsi, has moved inside the stadium to the Field Club area and will open two and a half hours before kickoff with music, food and beverage trucks, family activities and field-level views of team warmups. The pregame event is free and open to the public.
The Great Danes return home Sept. 19 against Monmouth for Hometown Heroes Day and Family Weekend, followed by Delaware State for Homecoming on Oct. 3, Campbell for Spooky Saturday and Spirit Day on Oct. 31 and Maine for Senior Day on Nov. 14.
Soccer teams already in action
Men’s soccer opened its season Aug. 20 at Michigan State and hosts Fairleigh Dickinson tonight at 6:30 p.m. in its home opener at Casey Stadium. The Great Danes remain home to face Colgate Sunday.
Women’s soccer is also already underway, with the Great Danes three games into their season. UAlbany returns home Saturday at 4 p.m. to host Quinnipiac at Casey Stadium.
Field hockey and volleyball begin play
Field hockey opens its season Friday at noon against Wagner at Alumni Turf before hosting Boston College Sunday at noon.
The Great Danes will play six home games during the regular season, including America East matchups against Bryant, Vermont and UMass Lowell. Conference play begins Oct. 2 at Maine.
Women’s volleyball begins its season Saturday at the Black Knight Invitational in West Point, facing Iowa and Sacred Heart before taking on host Army Sunday.
UAlbany continues nonconference play with tournaments at Cornell, Colgate and Purdue before opening America East competition Sept. 25 at home against UMBC at the PE Gym.
More Great Danes join the fall slate
Women’s golf opens its fall campaign Sept. 11 at the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa., and will later host the UAlbany Doc Sauers Invitational Oct. 11-12 at Normanside Country Club in Delmar.
Cross country and women’s rowing will also begin their fall schedules in September as the Great Danes’ fall athletics calendar moves into full swing.
