ALBANY, N.Y. (Jan. 22, 2025) — U.S. News & World Report has ranked The University at Albany’s School of Education #7 in the nation for best online master’s in education programs. For the past nine years the school has been recognized as one of the top 10 programs nationwide.
"For over 25 years UAlbany’s School of Education has offered students the opportunity to pursue their passion and launch successful careers in service to education. We are committed to continuing this vibrant legacy, building a community of dedicated educators who empower students and themselves,” said Virginia Goatley, dean of the School of Education.
The rankings evaluated 321 regionally accredited institutions offering online master’s in education programs, assessing them across five categories: engagement, faculty credentials and training, peer assessment, services and technologies, and student excellence.
Engagement was given the greatest weight at 30 percent, with higher scores going to programs that provided students with opportunities to readily interact with instructors and classmates, and experiences that motivated students toward degree completion.
UAlbany’s School of Education provides a range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs, along with graduate certificates in education and mental health disciplines. Graduate offerings include teacher education, literacy, mental health counseling, school psychology, global education, educational policy, and instructional design. Many programs are available fully online, providing students with flexibility and personalized learning opportunities.
